On 5 December 2018, the UAE Singapore Business Council organised its first Investment Workshop on Doing Business in the UAE.  The event was organised in conjunction with the UAE Embassy and Singapore Business Federation, with co-sponsorship from Nexus Business Services and The Private Office of Sheikh Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Maktoum.  The guest of honour was His Excellency Dr Mohamed Omar Abdulla Balfaqeeh.  The Investment Workshop was well-attended by about 100 participants covering half a day.  The participants represented a cross-section of companies involved in finance, information technology, trading, manufacturing, logistics and services sectors.

There were five presentations from Emirates NBD Bank covering economic overview, Nexus Business Services covering investment structures and considerations, Masdar covering renewable energy, ESMA covering Emirates quality mark and halal certification and the Middle East Institute covering digital economy.  In addition, there were panel discussions involving the presenters and a special panel discussion involving Singapore companies – DP Architects, Indoguna, Surbana Jurong, sharing their experiences in undertaking business and investments in the UAE.

The participants found the Investment Workshop immensely beneficial and interesting, being actively involved in the Q&A sessions.  The UAE Singapore Business Council intends to organise investment workshops and other seminars and conferences on a yearly basis.
