Updated: Jan 19, 2021

On Tuesday, 8th December, in conjunction with the 49th National Day of the United Arab Emirates, the UAE Singapore Business Council (UAESBC) presented the second serving of our flagship event: the annual UAE Investment Workshop. This year the UAESBC joined forces with the UAE Embassy in Singapore and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry in presenting the event virtually via a webinar that featured renowned agencies and companies from both the UAE and Singapore. The event was graced by GOH, the Charge d'Affaires Ad Interim of the UAE Embassy in Singapore, His Excellency Sheikh Saleh Al Sharqi, who gave the Opening Address.

Under the theme of 'Opportunities in F&B Manufacturing, Distribution and Franchising', attendees of the event were informed about the opportunities, procedures and requirements relevant to potential investors to the UAE F&B sector. These were covered in the first part of the webinar by presenters from the UAE namely: Ms Carmen James from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Mr Yousef Al Marzooqi from the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) and Mr Essam Al Tamimi from Al Tamimi & Co.

The second part of the webinar was a Q&A panel discussion moderated by UAESBC President, Dr Brian Shegar, that featured representatives of 4 companies who have successfully established presence in the UAE F&B market namely:

- Ms Helene Raudaschl, Founder and Chairman of Indoguna Productions FZCO who are one of the largest manufacturing investors from Singapore in the UAE F&B sector.

- Ms Evan Tay, Business Development Director of SMH Food Group of Companies who are one of the major exporters of food products (including their delicious Dim Sum) from Singapore using UAE distributors.

- Mr Ricky Chew, Founder and Executive Chairman of Fish & Co. Restaurants Pte Ltd who have successfully franchised their well-known brand in the UAE market as a leading seafood establishment.

- Mr P. R. Thakore from IIFCO, one of UAE’s biggest conglomerates with a presence in Singapore.

The four panelists gave brief introductions to their companies and shared candid perspectives of their experiences in the UAE F&B industry. This was then followed by an engaging interactive Q&A session from the moderator and the audience.

The UAESBC received several positive feedback on the event which was attended by more than 90 participants in total.
